Service Brakes, Air:disc

NHTSA campaign 12V403000 · announced August 14, 2012 · filed by Navistar, Inc · 956 units affected

The problem

Navistar is recalling certain model year 2011-2013 International vehicles manufactured from November 2, 2010 through May 25, 2012, equipped with Bendix air disc brakes. Bolts that fasten the air disc brake caliper to the caliper mounting plate may not have been tightended to their specified torque. This may cause the mouting bolts to become loose and possibly allow the air disc brake caliper to separate from the caliper mounting plate, resulting in an unexpected pull condition during braking application or an unexpected increase in stopping distance.

The risk

An unexpected pull condition during braking application or an unexpected increase in stopping distance, increases the risk of a crash, leading to property damage, personal injury, or death.

What to do

Navistar will notify owners, and dealers will replace any missing caliper mounting bolts and tighten caliper mounting bolts, free of charge. The safety recall began on October 30, 2012. Owners may contact Navistar at 1-331-332-1590.
